Jalisco, Mexico Travel Diary | Seeking a Hidden Gem

It took us about an hour to get from the airport to the little fisherman's marina. A local kid met us there with a rickety motor boat and drove us around the bend to Casitas Maraikas, the spot we'd be staying at for the next few days.

Maraikas has its own private beach that's only accessible by boat, and it's located on a steep hillside covered in green. It's little houses (or as the locals say, "casitas") are open-air tree house-like structures that let in the ocean breeze and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

We immediately made best friends with Rigo, a fixture at Maraika's and one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. He took care of us throughout our stay and made sure we were well fed with guac and ceviche, and hydrated with the sweetest passion fruit juice on the planet.

Mornings were early but it's always worth it to see the sun rise. And evenings were full of fun and laughter with friends just sitting together outside on the big wooden tables overlooking the ocean.

Overall, the trip was a blast. We had the best of times with close friends, and made new ones. The people and little creatures that live at Maraika's made it such a magic place.
