Surrounded on all sides by majestic sloping mountains, the capital city of Kathmandu, Nepal is a sight to be seen. Bright, colorful, and cosmopolitan, its bustling streets, old city architecture, and pagoda-style temples make Kathmandu a prime location for wandering and exploring for hours on end. Of all the world’s capitals, this mountainous marvel has the densest collection of UNESCO World Heritage sites – a true visitor’s paradise.
As you weave through Kathmandu’s zigzagging streets, you’re sure to find yourself face to face with one of many Chaityas, or stone carving sculptures, depicting a host of gods and goddesses. Turn a corner and you might come across a stupa (the Sanskrit word for “heap”), a stout structure with a rounded roof that is home to ancient relics, and used as a space for meditation in the modern age.
Each one of these spiritual buildings is its own kind of treasure chest: you never know what you’ll find when you take a peek inside. Fascinating art pieces and sculptures – forged out of diverse materials like wood, stone, metal, and terracotta – await curious adventurers just behind the walls of Kathmandu’s temples and shrines.
As a place brimming with art and culture, we felt that creating a splashy print was a truly apropos ode to Kathmandu. Just like the city itself, you can get lost in its many dimensions, its unique and playful symmetry, its harmonious blend of colorful shapes. Our Madison top (available in both standard sizing and D to E cup sizes) features turquoise piping that frames its funky pattern, and the Rebel bottom’s criss-cross accents make it young, modern, and oh-so-fun.
